Hope Island Dental Care was founded in 2003 by Dr Philip Jacobs. As the first dental practice established in Hope Island, we have been proudly serving the community for over two decades. With a commitment to high quality, patient-centred care, we strive to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for all our patients. In 2024, we’re excited to hand over ownership of the practice to Dr Steven Wey, who brings a fresh energy and broad range of expertise to our clinic.

Meet Our Dentists

Dr. Philip Jacobs

As the founding dentist of Hope Island Dental Care, Dr Jacobs has been a pillar of the Hope Island community for over 20 years. Dr Jacobs graduated from the University of Queensland in 1994 and opened the clinic in May 2003.

Throughout his career, Dr Jacobs has treated generations of families, and has built a reputation for personalised care and exceptional service. Dr Jacobs’ passion for the craft of dentistry, combined with his genuine concern for patients’ well-being have made him a trusted figure in the community.

As he retires from dentistry, Dr Jacobs is confident that he leaves Hope Island Dental in capable hands and is grateful for the relationships he has built over the years. Dr Jacobs will continue seeing patients until the end of October.

Dr. Steven (Hao Yu) Wey

We are pleased to welcome Dr Steven Wey as the new owner and principal dentist of Hope Island Dental Care. Dr Wey is a highly skilled practitioner who is committed to maintaining the high standards of care that you have come to expect.

Dr Wey brings a wealth of expertise and a passion for staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in dental technology. Dr Wey is excited to expand the scope of our services, allowing our patients to access comprehensive treatment, including orthodontics, dental implants and dentures, under the one roof.

Dr Wey graduated from Griffith University, and has undertaken further training at City of London College and the Australasian Restorative & Implant Academy (ARIA). He has special interests in the fields of Orthodontics, Dental Implants and Full Mouth Rehabilitations.

Dr Wey grew up on the Gold Coast and has strong ties to the region. As a local, he is devoted to serving the community and nurturing genuine connections with his patients. Known for his friendly and thoughtful nature, Dr Wey’s priority is to ensure a comfortable and positive experience at every visit.
